Welcome to The Riverbottoms House, the home that we built before writing The Owner-Builder Book. This two-story colonial house was inspired by Abraham Lincoln’s’ Springfield Illinois home. We owner-built this house in 1997 for a total cost of $166,000, less than $50 a square foot. General contractor estimates were $90 a square foot.
The home is located in Provo, Utah 50 miles south of Salt Lake City, in the shadows of the Wasatch range of the Rocky Mountains. The home was built in an established neighborhood of upscale houses, many of which were also owner-built.
