How do you get better prices on these items?  Lowe's and Home Depot prices are half the price of Rosen supply. Is there a difference in the quality of the products?

Hi Carrie,

Buyplumbing.net has great pricing and is located in UT-- no tax out of state. We are in NJ, and even with the long distance shipping, they were great to work with and had what we wanted at less than half price of any supply house locally, but great quality (we went with the Danze Opulence colection in brushed nickel throughout). They do bulk pricing too, so if you are doing a whole house, they will take off a bit more from your order. Put it in your shopping cart and email it to them with a request for bulk pricing. I have heard that HD and Lowe's have lower end versions of the plumbing brands, like the same model number might have a plastic value instead of a metal one when it comes from them. Not sure if that's just a plumber lying to us or what? Good luck.

Fixtures are something that you really should take your time and shop around for.
We got some great deals on eBay -- name brand fixtures, you may have to wait for them, but plumbing fixtures were something that we came in under budget on.

When using PayPal:
1) Pay with a credit card. Always. Without exception.  This gives you 90-days of recourse in most cases.
2) I'd recommend name brand stuff. There are a lot of Asian imports that may or may not have the same quality.
3) Be patient. We purchased over a three-month period. You don't need this stuff until finish out, so take your time.

Lowe's (in my area) also had much better clearance prices than HD for plumbing...

For Danze products check out danzefaucetwarehouse.com . They have good deals on their products. I got an email from faucetdepot.com the other day stating sale prices on their name brands. Here they are as follows:

This is a common misconception, that HD and Lowe's sells the same part number faucets with different levels of trim. Think about this from a large-scale manufacturing standpoint, how would you manufacture two products with the same part number, and then ensure proper distribution to two different retailers? And not everything from HD and Lowe's comes from the manufacturer, they buy from wholesalers the same as your local plumbing supplier, as a manufacturer how do you ensure the wholesaler ships your good faucets to the plumbing supplier and ships your plastic faucets to HD or Lowe's, same part number on the box for the guy loading the trucks?

Now then what I have found is that sometimes HD and Lowe's faucets appear exactly the same but do have different part numbers. I don't think this is conspiracy to sell cheaper products so much as it is to avoid cost-match policy (if the part numbers don't match, you aren't comparing apples-to-apples for their cost match policy).

As an example (not plumbing related, but the first that came to mind) HD sells Kraftmaid cabinets, the same Kraftmaid cabinets that get sold through other suppliers as well. The difference is in the name of the door styles and the name of the finish styles, HD doesn't match the "standard" terminology on the Kraftmaid website, however those door styles and finish colors sure look exactly the same. The difference, you can't force HD into a cost-match situation since they are offering "different" product.

I used Danze fixtures and have been very pleased with them. I found the Danze part numbers the exact same from every source, sure makes cost comparisons easy (and ensures you get the product you desire). My decision point was initial quality and availability of replacement parts (I can get valves and such locally). Lifetime warranty too, if you put any value in that sort of thing -- which I don't since I don't care to send a leaky-valve faucet back to the manufacturer and be without a faucet for 6-8 weeks? I would rather purchase the replacement valve and install it myself.

One of the ways we saved additional money was, we bought Lowe's and HD coupons from eBay ($2 a piece). They are generally 10% off any purchase, but I have seen 20% also. We also checked for rebates on their websites and along with using the coupon we shopped during the time frame of the rebate. For example, we bought our cabinets with a 10% coupon and saved $1,000, but we also got a gift card worth $750 sent in the mail along with free hardware. With the $750 gift card we bought our paint during the Baer paint sale and got $5 off gallons and $30 off five-gallons. It all helped save money.
