I think part of what makes this a valuable resource is the lack of spam, trolls, and advertising. There are some good, reliable discussions and content on that board, and not much wasted space.

I am looking for contractor's liability for my husband.  We are very close to starting out house.  In order to get a city permit (Arlington, TX) he has to have a minimum of $500,000 insurance.

Thanks so much!!

In Katy, I just had to get one of my contractors (Framer) to send a certificate of additionally insured.

Basically, his insurance coverage is extended to me, at least that is how my insurance agent explained it to me.

At any rate, it made the city happy and didn't cost me anything.

We were able to do the same as Craig.  We used our concrete contractors certificate since he was the contractor pouring our driveway.

Did you do any of the work yourself with direct hired labor? What did you do about insurance to cover the change of say a fire or some employee of yours or a sub getting hurt and wanting to sue you?  I am not paranoid, but out in California (we just moved) everyone is sue crazy.  As far as the example of the fire, we purchased property in a very nice subdivision with great restrictions, but last month a GC lost his house to fire.  It had been framed and someone set fire to it.  A subs insurance will not cover the loss.

We hired all the subs ourselves and they had their own insurance to cover employee's getting hurt.  As far as fire, we had a homebuilder's policy for the length of construction.  This policy covered the structure of our house should anything happen.  Does this help?

Can you provide me with the Insurance Company that you use, and a ballpark cost.  Thank you

Our insurance was through USAA and it was roughly $20 a month.
