Metal SIP buildings, are they good to live in? Maybe somebody can suggest a good contractor who has experience with that type of construction? Thanks.

Hi John,

I am close to the start of a metal SIP.  I am waiting for a wave runup analysis to be finished by the structural engineer - the early one was not adequate for the County.  I plan to sub out the foundation and column work then bring in Chris Kavala of Marquis Construction for the shell and dry-in.  He will be using metal SIPs and from what I understand, it is a great way to go.  Extremely energy efficient, structurally sound and a fast dry in time as well.  If you would like additional info from me or want me to let you know as things move along, just send me an email.

The house is going to be built in Ruskin on Tampa Bay.  Being in a V zone, I have a lot of additional requirements.

Joe, I'm just learning about SIPs. Was not aware about metal covering. I have found fiber cement and OSB board to be the most common. At age 72, I don't feel I can erect the shell myself but no one in my area is savvy about this construction method. Give me the link to your metal supplier. Richard in Wichita Falls, TX.

Hi Richard,

Sorry about a couple of day delay in responding.  Chris with Marquis Construction is using SIPS from a company in Georgia named Precision Foam Fabricators and the link to their site is precisionfoamfabricators.com

If I can provide any other info, just let me know.  Today my Structural Engineer and I met with the County and it looks like I might finally be able to get the County the last little language they want on my plans for approval in the next week or two -- after the Structural Engineer does his thing, the Architect has to do his so it is getting incredibly involved building in a Velocity Zone.
