Very uplifting knowing the "dime saved/dollar earned" formula. Each time I get tired and start to think about slowing down or get depressed, I stop and think how this will increase my net worth and financial independence. This is a very powerful psychological driving force.

I am interested in using PEX in my new home, two-story on a slab.  I was wondering if it would be okay to run the first floor plumbing overhead and then down to the fixtures instead of pre-piping through the slab?  I would like to have as little in the slab as possible.  I plan on having a plumber run my drain line and I am going to do the supply.

Any comments?

You will see from my previous post that I have a two-story as well. Like yourself, I wanted all the plumbing to be under the first floor. 1) I have 11'4" ceilings in the basement, so running the sewer lines would be no problem, (drop down ceiling later) 2) having all the lines accessible is a plus for me ( I am putting a few more cleanouts) 3) running the PEX should be a breeze as well (even the water line from the city comes into my walls a few feet off the ground) (hilly lot)

It would be easy for someone using engineered floors to run the lines inside the joists, but in having Dietrich metal floors the drop will not be enough inside the small hole they give you, so I will run the sewer under the flooring. When you get ready to run your lines, let me know. I should have done it by then. By the way the plumber that is taking off for me says he has done a few that way - it made for an easy day.

It will be interesting to see if any other O-B'ers have some experience here.

Bill,

Since our situations are not completely the same, I went to the next street over in our subdivision where they are building a few new houses to see the latest trends . All the two-story houses (single story as well) are running their PEX through the ceiling and down/up. All Vanguard tubing and copper stub outs, one manifold from the garage.

I know a man who built his 2-story last year; ran his manifold from the second story and down. He wanted the hot water heater upstairs next to his 2 baths.

Thanks for the replys.  My only real worry was trapping air in the system but with 3/8 and 1/2 tubing, flushing it out should not be a problem.
