The Dream Factory is offering tours of the Lakepoint House at Prairie Lee Lake in the eastern part of Lees Summit, MO. Tours are $5/person and go to support a good cause (the Dream Factory).
Anyway, this is roughly a $2M House, close to $200/s.f., have you seen it? I went this past weekend, just to see what level of design and finish $200/s.f. gets you in a spec house (I spent less than 1/2 that less than two years ago). Without giving away too much information on what I found were flaws in design, construction, materials usage, and ultimate livability, I was wondering who else has seen it, and if we would like a discussion on how things could have been done better at little or no additional cost. It was the level of detail in these high dollar spec houses that drove me to O-B in the first place as we simply could not get top quality in any construction we could even remotely afford (and $2M is not in the category of even remotely afford, it is in the category of not in my wildest dreams).
I haven't read Myron Ferguson's book in awhile (Build It Right!, which has been re-released as Better Houses, Better Living and is supposedly much better than the old edition I have), but you would think for $2M and $200/s.f. you wouldn't be living with too many obvious defects. In many ways, my house at 10% of the cost is a far better level of finish. It certainly made me appreciate what I have more than it made me wish I could afford to spend more money on a house.
Friends don't let friends buy spec houses...
