So I have Douglas fir flooring.  It bows in the middle.

A friend of mine just installed pine, which also lacks a tongue and groove on the short ends.  He is a contractor by trade, but not an expert in the area of flooring.  He took the advice of one of his friends who is a flooring 'genius'.

1.  On the short ends of the boards he used a biscuit router to install biscuits between adjoining planks.
2.  He lost the felt or paper underneath it and used construction adhesive to glue the boards directly to the subfloor.

The point of this was to create a connection between the planks so that the planks won't squeak.

Here is what I want to do:

1.  Use the adhesive like he did.
2.  Forget the biscuits between the ends of the boards.  I would rather screw the board ends to the sub floor.  Of course countersinking and plugging them after.

My friend seems to think that because the board won't be connected that they will rub, and create squeaks.  He's been working with wood longer than I, but I don't see how it will squeak if it is well secured at each end of the board.

Any experience, advice, or irrational guesses would be appreciated.

Thanks

You can only glue down engineered hardwood flooring.  Solid hardwood flooring has to expand and contract with heat and humidity, so be careful that you don't overdue it with the glue and screws.  I would think the biscuit method would allow for the expansion and contraction more.  Otherwise, it will buckle.
