Thanks for your website. I hope others have gotten as much out of it as I have. I really enjoyed the book and CD-ROM that came with it.

After reading the post I took a look.

Our project has 14 3/0 windows and numerous doors. So I emailed Mark, and he sent a mail back pronto with questions and said he would have a quote with shipping today.

A good sign, at least they are on the ball. As soon as I get the quote I will let you know how they fared.

I haven't heard of this company but I can recommend using them and any others you can find. I searched the classifieds, builders supply houses, eBay, local bargain trader magazines; and saved THOUSANDS of dollars building my house. I bought 1,500 square feet of the exact white tile I wanted for my baths and kitchen at a discount building supply. I had to ask if they had anything, cause I didn't see it on the shelf. It was in the back of a warehouse. He wanted $.79 per square foot. I told him I'd buy it all if he'd take $.50 per square foot and he did! These were 12x12 textured tiles! My truck was low in the rear end on the way home!

We also got to be familiar faces at Lowe's and Home Depot. If they got seconds or returns or discontinued items, they'd call us to see if we wanted them.

Always see if they will accept a lower price. It never hurts to ask!

Here are some other items I got deals on:

Atrium window eBay $185

Solid pine 6-panel doors prehung less than $100 each - eBay (Lowe's price $130 each)

Chandeliers $10 - Lowe's clearance racks (75% off)

Steel entry door with leaded oval and side lights - Pella - Damaged goods warehouse $150

Jacuzzi whirlpool tub - Kohler distributor yard sale - $100!!!!

Steel exterior French doors (2) with panes inside - $30 each (these were going up at auction. I called and asked if I could buy some before they did.)

Steel exterior door with blinds inside the glass $30

Two interior French solid wood doors $20 each

All my door hardware came from a dealer on eBay at much better prices than local.

Shop, shop, shop and bargain up a storm!

Good luck!

Sandy,

Mark emailed me on two occasions, very promptly. However I do not have a tax ID # and he informed me I could not purchase from them because of this.

Pam,

I too have visited a discount builders supply. The one locally does no advertising, i have not heard anyone talking about it either. I just got lucky and saw the signs on the door one day.

I could not believe the discounts. I found our tile (18/18 porcelain) for 79 cents a square. Also our spare bath cabinets (oak 60") for $110. Lowe's wanted $349 and surely not oak.

One thing, though. Most of the items I saw around the place were lower-end items. I really had to dig around for the non-dented or scratched counters.

If you don't mind... where is this discount supply place?  I live in Melbourne (east of Orlando) but I'm building just north of Ocala, so I'm in both places often.

Marc,

We too are interested in where this discounty builder supply store is, seeing as we are planning to build in the Ocala area.

This is a surplus builders warehouse. It is located in Fort Walton Beach, 111 NW Racetrack Rd. 850.314.0076.

I do not want to sound "snobbish", but this warehouse is not the place for all your building needs. It is clean and the merchandise is priced very competitively. However, it is not name-brand merchandise. For me, I found oak cabinets I can use in the utility room, tile for the porch, and if the wife likes it - a Whirlpool tub, but with only four jets (I do not think it will fly).

Some things I noticed were, great prices on Formica countertops, a nice mahogany door with a side lite for $750.

I hesitate to have you drive from Ocala to FWB for this, for I am sure they have a surplus somewhere closer. Try Tallahassee first. If I can help in any other way, please let me know.

Thanks for the lead on Empiresurplus.com. The prices are great. What I really need is a lumber surplus source. Anyone know of any?

Thanks,

Theresa
