I'm an engineer and have been working on other projects. The Owner-Builder Book website is some good reading, though.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

Hello Dale, what can you tell about where to buy and what trade contractors know how to build a home out of this stuff.  I'm sold on the benefits, but am I disconnecting on the sourcing and building using this stuff?

Hi Chris,

I am in a similar situation. I love what I read about the qualities of AAC but I'm having a hard time getting connected to the suppliers. I found out about this material when I walked by a house under construction within a half mile of my house. I talked to the owner and he said that there used to be a factory in Casa Grande (E-crete) but it is having financial problems. On the Net all "E-crete" searches take you to the Trustone website e-crete.com. But even that site is not too helpful in reaching the suppliers. The guy building near me said that he was going to get his block from E-crete but they couldn't come through so he ended up getting his block from Contec, in San Antonio, Texas, whose blocks come from Monterey, Mexico. He is building a 6,000 sq. ft. house and said it added about $5,000 to the cost of the blocks to bring them to Phoenix from Mexico.

I am hoping that the Casa Grande factory will be back online soon, although I have no information that that is going to happen. I was told the factory stopped producing about 6 months ago.

I am brand new to this website. I just registered. I hope that I will be able to discuss AAC with others in the Southwest who are using this stuff. I'm in love with it! (Maybe infatuated is more accurate, since I haven't worked with it yet. :-)

Hi Kelly, I did hook up with AAC structures and am actually driving down to Tucson today to meet with them at a project they are building out of it. I would like, if you think it is possible, to go see the home you mentioned being built out of the stuff. Thanks!

Chris, I sent you a private message with the phone number of the owner of the house.

Hi Chris, I am very interested in AAC construction for my new house project in Tucson. I first saw this used in a condo complex in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, MX. Since then, I have tried to follow it and am now in need of contacting a supplier, preferably in the Tucson or Phoenix, AZ area.

In the event you are no longer following this thread, I shall send this as a private message also.

TIA
Joseph

I wish to create my own faux rock wall using lightweight concrete. Perlite is cheap but doesn't look good after carving. Same with vermiculite. Cenospheres work well but are way too expensive. I have been reading about aerated concrete and how aluminum powder is used to add air to the concrete and lighten the load. I can only find suppliers online which will sell large amounts. Do you know where I can order small quantities?
