I think I'm finally seeing an end in sight to this.
I don't know about others, but this house has totally dominated my life for nearly two years.
We spent the first year in planning, and the second under construction.

The past few months have been a grind. I've been doing (or trying to do) much of the interior myself.
So I get up in the morning, spend 8 hours with my j.o.b. When I'm off from that, it's straight over to the house, and work until late. Then get  up in the morning to do it all over again.

I'm tired. All the way to the bone.
And I'm tired of making decisions, and directing subs, and keeping on them to "do it RIGHT!" (we're starting on our third painter trying to get the trim painted right).
The interior has just dominated everything.

But I can see a light at the end of the tunnel.
If I can get the trim painted SOON, I can count the tasks remaining, and it's not that long of a list.
I can honestly see us getting in there by the end Jan!!!!  YAY!!! Whooo Hooo!!!!

I'll have a fair punch list of things to finish, or touch up, after we're in (mostly paint), but nothing that will stop us from moving in. I can't say how much I'm looking forward to that "Ahhhhh..." moment, when we're in, and I can pull up a seat on deck, and relax, ....for the first time in a very long time.

One of my subs asked me the other day if I'd do it again.
I surprised him when I said: "Absolutely! In fact, I'm hoping to create the opportunity to do just that!"

Nearly There...
Nearly There...

I feel your pain.  My house has been dominating me for one year.

I just finished my wood-plank floor.  I did the math and I pre-drilled 6,000 holes.  It took me three weeks to install it and now that I'm done everything else seems minimal.  Doors, no problem.  Countertops, small project.

The funny thing is that I have no push to finish the house.  I live in a home next to it.  No lenders are hovering over my shoulder.  The push to move in is completely self induced.

I am also sick of watching everything and making sure everything is done on time and under budget.  This house building experience has been a great lesson in prioritizing.

Would I do it again?  Hmmm.  Yes.

Isn't it great to have this forum where other people can understand the exhaustion?  I want to spend one week with a good book and detox myself from caffeine.

Right there with you Ric - hoping to move in during the next couple of weeks. My husband is exhausted and we haven't seen most of our friends in many months.  Like Rachal, I live in a house next door so there is no rush, except that I just want to get IN!

Even when we do move - we won't be done. I have a lot of landscaping to do and some exterior painting. Would I do it again - YES. Especially now that I have learned so much and know what problems to avoid.

Please post some pictures of your house when you get moved in. Faye

I'm getting ready to be finished by the end of January also.  I think my wife is going to kill me if it takes any longer.  Lately my shifts at the house have started at about 8-9 p.m. and I work out there until 3-3:30 a.m..  It's no fun, but if you want something done right, you either need to pay a lot of money, or do it yourself.  I'd rather do it myself.  Good luck everyone!!
