Excerpt from Report:
"...Q: What do you suggest for a good job?
A:
My partner lives in the Riverbottoms. Good framing is needed. We have
two crews of hangers. Main crew is eight guys. We have a stringent
drywall nailing code. And there is an inspection before we tape.
A:
Be careful of open corners that framers don't close because it's a
problem to drywall that. We use vinyl bullnose. We stock the house two
weeks before rocking, so the drywall acclimatizes.
A: Your
personnel, employees, how much they have done. Being meticulous. You
can do a lot with drywall. Round corners, round walls. We have new
sheetrock that bends without wetness.
A: Texture none to
orangepeel you have to hang it correctly. Goes back to framing. Have a
great framer, squareness. Sheetrock can only look as good as the
framing below it. Rakes and vaulted ceiling are complex.
A:
11,000 - 12,000 feet of sheetrock. $6-7,000 of sheetrock. I lose 5-7
cents per foot when he buys the rock. If it's cleaner, and I can get in
and out, I'll let you know. Fifty-five cents a foot. If he supplied the
rock and the hanger, I would then charge him between 25-27 cents. If
hanger wants 14 cents, the rock at 13-14 cents, that would make 54
cents. I give your construction advisor Norman 21-22 cents on a big
home like his son's. You can probably save yourself a couple of cents
by buying the materials. I'll tape it for 27 cents a foot. You end up
calling and scheduling the hangers. You could take 57 cents to the bank
at the worse scenario."...
Sample Reader Tip Excerpts:
"It's a good idea to mark on the floor with spray paint where every outlet is located so the drywallers can pinpoint them."

"We
remodeled our master bath. The quotes I got for drywall on a tiny
bathroom were incredible. And that's a trade that doesn't require a
high I.Q. But everyone is so busy."
