I devoured your book, and hit every spot on your website. We're in Brevard County, FL and we got it kicked out of us by the hurricanes here. I'm amazed at the amount of information on your website. There is so much motivation for owner-builders there.

Just my luck...right when I go to click save, the blog entry I just typed is lost.  Since I don't want to type it all over again over frustration, I'll make this short ;)

Got through the permits excitedly and immediately ran over to my excavator's last Thursday.  By Friday, my house was already staked out...YEAH!  They aren't suppose to officially starting digging until next week, but it was exciting to see how my house was going to layout on the lot.  Although I know my ranch is more than a decent size for the hubby and me, once I saw it staked-out I did do a little freak action...and calmed down within a few minutes of measuring.  It just looked so small!  But once I compared it to the measurements on the plan, I knew all was good.

Then I rode by today to see if our sign we put out with our address stood the "storm" test since we were hit with rain...and what do I see, my temporary electric pole already put in place...ahead of schedule :)  Can everything run like that?!  THe electrician indicated he would get it in once they started to dig, which is planned for next week, but heck he must have decided to head up early.  Perfectly OK with me...I can only hope the rest of this experience goes this way.

I did add a couple pictures of our stake-out to my slide show...again you can check it out at the following address:  http://3645829888.slide.com/p/5/04062006+-+We+purchased+the+lot...now+to+figure+out+what+type+of?view=large

Thought I would start my blogging since breaking of ground is less than three weeks away :) We have most of the subcontractors lined up, went to the bank for the construction loan, and today went to the permit office for review of our plans. There was a little damper on the permit office review... when getting our plans, the company that drew up our plans didn't include a site map/cross-view of the property, so it was a bit of a bummer today that we couldn't get the permits wrapped up. All is a learning curve for us. They promised to have it completed by next Monday so back down to the permit office we go on Tuesday. Lucky we were getting them ahead. If we had waited to the last minute, I would have been putting off breaking ground... yikes... would have been a bad way to start this experience.

Also, met with the plumber today... fantastic guy. Admittedly my husband felt a bit hesitant with him before the meeting... although he always answered his calls in a prompt manner, for one reason or another, according to my husband he always seemed rushed. Made my husband concerned as to if he would be available at the points where we would need him on site. But after spending 1.5 hours with him today and him going through all aspects of his duties in more detail, my husband and I both walked out of there very sure about our selection. We'll have to wait to see as we progress ;)
