We barely break ground and it seems as if that single act summoned our Colorado Monsoon Season early.
Normally something that doesn't get underway until July and a bit of a rarity in recent years (Colorado's been in a bit of a drought for the past several years), we suddenly seem inundated by rain! And mist. And hail. And more rain.
Since we broke ground the rains have been rolling in most every afternoon (the monsoon) which restricts the bulk of the work to the morning hours, but for the last few days it's been almost non-stop drizzle alternating with pouring rain topped off with chilly temperatures. The excavation area is a massively slick mudpit as I write this, and there's no way our excavator can reliably get any work done right now. As it was he smacked into one of my trees simply because the rig slipped on the road while he was trying to park it for the afternoon.
So today is a "down day" since it's basically been raining since yesterday. We'll see what it looks like tomorrow (sunshine is called for) but even if it is nice it'll take a day or so for the site to dry out properly.
At least the equipment rental folks were nice enough to extend our time through next Tuesday (the 9th). Turns out they've had a lot of renters call to complain that the weather was holding up their projects, and since it's also holding up the next place in line they just gave everybody an extension on whatever rentals they had out. That was very good of them, and instantly put them on my "recommend" list for others who need such services.
But really--I'd like to have some sunlight now please! I have a house to build!!!
