What a day! 13 hours long. 14 vertical feet of wall poured. 112 yards of concrete. Crew got up at the site at 6 am and didn't leave until 7 that evening. Concrete began arriving at a little after 9 am. In the meantime, the crew was feverishly trying to wrap up the bracing at corners and garage doors.

The pour was done in several stages or "lifts" of about 4-5 feet in depth. At first all was fine on the first lift, but at one of the garage doors, the jams started to blow out. There should have been better bracing in the area. Work was stopped as that was repaired and all the garage bracing was improved. Then back to pouring. Slowly making progress as one lift and another was done. The most intense part was waiting for the lintel pours over the garage doors to see if all of the bracing held with multiple tons of wet concrete bearing down. And fortunately it did!

Concrete John left two of his guys in Santa Fe to work another job and without them, work was getting behind with three trucks stacked up at one point. So I pitched in to help out. Hauling steel to the guys so they could stab in the next set of rebar, and vibrating the top lift of concrete as well. No need to go to the gym this week!

The day turned out well, half of the total concrete is now in place, we can get started on framing the flooring next week.

Double click on the pics as always.

Now we know why he's called a concrete guy! Concrete John.
