One thing has come to mind in the past couple months. It's about the credit card receipts and the checks being written. Those that simply go out and purchase a home whether a resale or new, normally either get a mortgage, or if they are my age, perhaps they are downsizing and pay cash from their previous sale. In either case, bang! The deal is done, and even though you may have 30 years of payments in front of you, the payment is the same all the time. It's kind of an "out of sight, out of mind" thing, especially if it's a direct draft from the bank.
But in a case where you are owner-building, the bills come at you all the time. And most of them are far larger than a typical house payment, right? $7,000 here and $20,000 there. And they keep coming!
And of course we all know this is coming. And as long as you remain close to budget - hugely over some things and nicely under on others, all turns out fine in the end. But - it still is genuinely unnerving all the while! Or is it just me???
