I presented the free Owner-Builder Book to my local library last week. They were delighted to receive the book. The librarian flipped through the contents and some of the sections of the book, and noted that this would be a great addition to the library collection, and would likely be used frequently. She added that she and her husband had built their own house twice - actually doing much of the work themselves.

So before 6:00 am, the crew was out doing the final prep before the first truck arrived at 6:45. Pump truck was set up and it was just able to reach the entire slab area from where it sat without having to move.

There were supposed to be four trucks in the relay, but the Redi-Mix company didn't live up to that promise. They supplied three and that ended up slowing things down as there was time lost between arrival and departure of subsequent trucks. But overall, the pour of 83 yards was finished by 10:30, with the rest of the day spent finishing and unloading ICF forms for tomorrow. Had a brief shower, but by that time the slab was hard enough it didn't affect it.

The electrical inspector called about 4:30 saying he was sorry he hadn't gotten out to inspect, but to go ahead and take pictures of the grounds. He then asked when we were going to pour the slab - "8 hours ago" was the response. And yes I did take pictures. So everything was fine and he said he'd see me at rough-in inspection. That will be quite some time off, but I did say I'd like to meet him next time he's in the area.

So tomorrow the walls start. John figures they'll pour the first level next Thursday. I will begin stabbing in my penetrations for water, waste, electric and electrical and outdoor lighting as they go up with the foam forms. I keep thinking of additional ones that need to be included. If I forget anything, it'll mean coring through concrete and steel??
