Yesterday the surveyor came out and pinned the corners of the house. Today they are trying to dig the footers. As they are at bedrock, it is taking them some time, even though they don't have to go down very deep at all. Fortunately it is the rock that can be chipped away at and flakes off in thin palm-sized pieces.
Whoops. An update since I started this post. They hit the area where the old foundation was and have to excavate the entire area down to bedrock. About four feet deep. Crap! This also means that area at the bottom will have to be formed, a stem wall constructed, the area filled with gravel and then the rest of the footers and slab done. This thing will not die! It is really disheartening. And the excavators, as good of people as they are, are like guests that have overstayed their welcome! We really want to move to the next step. I've asked the concrete guy to make a trip up here and survey the situation so his crew comes prepared on Monday. He said he will. I also have traded the excavator and the concrete guy each other's contact info so they can communicate directly.
Argh!!!!!!
