Despite the horrible weather this week (it snowed heavily on Wednesday, and was nasty wet and overcast most of the week) progress is being made. The excavator is relocating topsoil from the dig area up to the top, and there is quite a bit of it. It turns out to have quite a sandy texture to it, and should make a good leach field for the septic, just as the excavator initially said it would a couple months back. But there is still a lot of digging he has yet to do. He'll be on it at least through next week if not longer.

I made a decision on whom we will use for the framing section of the house. Now I have to tell the other contractor he lost. I liked both of them and it was a difficult decision to make, their prices were similar.

I've also made up my mind on the concrete contractor, the company in Santa Fe. Still waiting on the final structural design from the engineer which is supposed to be done today, but the contractor gave me an estimate based on some assumptions of the final engineered design. I won't give him the nod until he reviews the final design and firms his price. But at this time it is within the range I was expecting. The local contractor has never responded since I sent him the house plans. I'm thinking it's too big a job for him, and it is big with about 450 yards of concrete. The firm in Santa Fe has been very responsive throughout and I feel they could get it done in a reasonable time frame. But they have already said that they are getting work commitments and need to hear from me quickly. So getting the final engineering plans today is critical.

Windows have been ordered to hold price. Delivery to be in September. Ordered the curved glulams. Made a decision on SIPs supplier and will send them a deposit today. Waiting on the local yard to get me floor and roof truss final quotes. Need to push them on those. I will order the six French doors as soon as I get a final quote from Marvin dealer. I made a small change that needs to go through so the order to the factory will be correct.

So things are taking shape. It's a bit scary writing these checks to everyone. But really the current things are within the budgets we had put together. It's just scary writing big checks??!!

BTW, whenever I add pictures, the quality is really poor in the blog, unless you actually double click and open them up completely. Not sure why this has always been the case with all three of my blogs. Doesn't seem to be with other people's, but just an FYI if you are having trouble with viewing.
