So here I am, a couple of weeks since my last post. Am I able to report on progress with the shed? lights? Anything like that?
Why no I'm not -- instead I must report on my shiny new 15kW Ecogen suddenly dying with a distressing error!
Over the last couple of weeks the generator had occasionally been throwing a rather obscure error, a "1061 VSCF Field Loss". To be honest the first time it flagged I didn't pay it any attention -- there are lots of weird errors thrown when it runs a bottle of propane out and that's when this was flagging. After the third time or so however I took a gander at the Owner's Manual, which has this helpful bit of information:
"Unit detects loss of output voltage while running. Alternator damage. Contact servicing dealer."
Well that didn't sound good. By the same token though it was running fine, starting fine, not using any excessive propane or anything -- so I let it go.
For the next couple of weeks anyway when I put on a brand new propane bottle and it wouldn't start at all -- it just kept running for a moment, then stopped with a nice flashing "1061 VSCF Field Loss" error.
SO... I've got to call in the local Generac guys to come take a look. At least the unit is under warranty (and the warranty for stuff like this is actually pretty decent -- three years). But I don't have a backup generator at all right now just as things are starting to get darker... so that's kinda annoying.
Sigh. Hope they can figure it out quick!
