Current Top-Rated Posters

Thank you for giving owner-builders a platform to share our experiences from. I’ve gotten several ideas from posts on your website. For instance, I’d never heard of PEX before running across mention of it on ownerbuilderbook.com; afterward, I researched it and decided to use it in my home. You are doing us all a great service.

I made some progress on this over the weekend and I thought an update was called for.

So I spent a quality day Saturday knocking apart the debris left when the old Shed fell down a couple of weeks back.  Most of it is on the ground on the far side of the site (see picture below) but some of it has been laboriously carted back up the hill to the Gator and an eventual bonfire.  I got as far as tearing up part of the floor (and discovering a nice big mouse nest) before calling it and cleaning up most of the mess I'd made.

The panels that are supposed to go on this side of the Shed are already down there (got them the other day) and are awaiting deployment.  I took as much of the debris up the hill as I could load into the back of the Gator, and I think I'll get a saw to cut up the larger pieces of plywood before hauling them away (moving 4x8s back up the hill is a lot harder than moving them down) .  I've been trying to salvage what I could of the lumber but for the most part I'm finding I'm not going to get much of that accomplished.  Colleen and Jesse used scrap lumber while building this puppy so as to use up the excess from Tanglewood's construction and a lot of that wood already had nails and whatnot in it.  A few were good enough that I could hammer the nails out, but a lot of it is just going into the fire.

I figure I've got about a month before the weather turns on me so I've got to get the remainder of the siding up onto the new Shed and finish dismantling the old Shed.  Getting there.....

Looking south across the floor of the old Shed. You can see the new panels for the new Shed leaned up on the right, and Iv'e removed part of the floor. That giant mouse nest is there in the middle section (fortunately there was nothing in it by the time I got there).
