While I was working on cleaning up some of the many framing items that need to be finished, Sandra started cleaning up the fireplaces on those that are to be left with the brick showing. She started on the kitchen one first and got about 3/4 done with it today. First took an extra heavy putty knife and slowly scraped of the remaining scratch coat of cement that was underneath the plaster ( that had already been removed by the previous owner). Slowly the rough surface was transformed into something smooth and with more definition, the brick edges clearly showing.
After that was done she took muriatic acid in a spray bottle and wet each brick one by one, brushing with a brass brush, taking the remaining cement off exposing the original beauty. It's going to look great when finished and sealed. And then to the next one.

Results with the acid. Beyond my expectations for sure! |
