Haven't posted here for a while. Been busy on the "Mutton Busting" project and working the day job. In the middle of August, we received a letter from an attorney that had taken a couple weeks to get to us. He was representing the owners of the lot next to us. They were attempting to clarify that they had an easement over our lot for access to theirs. This was the first time I had ever heard such a thing. They have permitted access through the lot on the other side of them, but apparently it's not as convenient. Indeed, they had gone so far as to send a surveyor out to the property to define what they wanted as the easement without any notice to us. It's one thing to have a surveyor come out and locate property lines, it's another to have him trespass and establish new lines. This certainly does not sit well with me or my wife.

In addition, they want to take the easement across, and then back up through the middle of our lot, directly where the house site is. Are they freakin' crazy?! Do they think we'd allow them to completely ruin the value of the lot? A not so insignificant amount? The original recorded easement ends at the our lot line with the neighbors on our other side. It allows us access to our lot but no further. So now we have had to engage an attorney to respond. Armed with old plats, and new satellite images, we made our response and will see where it goes. And we were hoping for good neighbors, we'll probably meet them for the first time in court.
