Unfortunately I did not find your book in time for that house but we have it for the next one. It is a great book, full of useful information. Lots of it seems like common sense after you read it, but I did not have the common sense to think of it before I read it.

Actually it looks like it is from the extended forecast. Looks like the last 90+ day is history and the next 10 days will be in the 80s and later into the 70s. The cooler weather will be welcome, but that also means winter will be coming. Need to get moving on closing up the house. While Sandra and Cassidy were continuing to paint, Todd and I started taking out one side of the wall of the hallway against the kitchen. It's a supporting wall so we've got to place a beam in there. I'll order it tomorrow along with some lumber that we'll use to raise the ceiling in the second story. The LVLs for the beam are 20' long. No way I can haul them so I'll have them deliver the whole load on Friday.

We also got the sidewalk cut, removed the old section of pipe and check valve that were in the meter box. Sandra had questioned why I wanted to take the new line all the way to the box when we could have cut into the old line after it passed under the sidewalk. Other than " this is the way it should be done" I didn't have anything to offer until we took out the line. Then it was pretty obvious. The inside of the pipe was choked with scale. Sure water would have gotten through, but at a severely reduced rate. Need to call the city and arrange for them to put the meter in. It will be great to have water and not run a hose from next door. Another priority will be to set the toilet in the downstairs bath because 1: it will certainly be more convenient than running back to the house or hitting up HDs every time we shop there and 2: I want to see if the sewer line works. I'm crossing my fingers. I don't want to have to replace that. It's been enough to tie in to the old clay tile, which we are poking at slowly. Finally found a rubber Fernco that I BARELY got to fit over the clay tile and works with 4" PVC drain pipe on the other end. It was more difficult that I thought it would be to find it. The OD of the tile is 6", but does not make it 6" tile. Not sure what it is. 5"? Fernco doesn't make a fitting for 5" that then fits 4" PVC. Finally used one that fits 4" cement pipe, yes 4" cement pipe has an OD of 5 7/8" and finally got it stretched just enough to get it on.
