The weeks seem to go by very quickly as you near the end of the construction. The details seem to take forever, and the subs never seem to show up. Our columns are finally installed inside after waiting for over 6 months. We ended up with a huge mess from the wood-flooring company as they sanded the upstairs floors. They obviously did not feel the need to use the vacuum when sanding the floors, and spread dust all over the house in the process, which took days to clean.
It mostly upset me because the whole house had pretty much already been cleaned and dusted, and so many of the appliances were already installed. There was dust on every surface regardless of if it was vertical or horizontal. So all the walls had to be cleaned off as well, no small feat I assure you. The curved staircase finally has the wood treads installed (all but the first bottom one, which needs a custom trim-piece), and the tile risers have been installed and grouted. The railings will be next on the list and are being constructed. The original railing installer was also a no-show, even after being paid a substantial deposit. We are going to pursue legal action on him because it went way over one year. He did not do one single thing to show he had any intention of doing the job after he received his deposit! That was extremely frustrating.
So up until today the following has been completed; touch-up paint, closet organizers, all bathrooms, all trim moldings, all doors, pantry shelving, exterior window trim paint, all plumbing fully functional, all a/c fully functional, rain gutters, pool design, columns, fireplace mantel, all decorative trim work. Believe me, that is a very long list of things that seemed to take forever to get accomplished. Most of it had to be done over weekends and a random weekday here and there, when my husband could be available to keep an eye on subs and/or employees. I will update more later...
