I have been diligently reading The O-B Book. I'm about halfway through and it helps me gain the confidence to become an owner-builder. I have to admit it does feel overwhelming. I do agree that the planning stage is your most important stage and shouldn't be rushed. Fortunately, I am a planning-type person. I like creating lists, comparatively shopping items, and I have the patience to wait for a better bargain. I now know what other O-B's are scoring as bargains and have a parameter to gauge my purchases against. That was a big point for me being so new to this endeavor. I think half the challenge is knowing what the "industry standard" is on an item and determining the percentage "saved" to qualify as a true bargain. This is a skill that needs to be honed and practiced. I can see why other O-B's say give yourself at least one year to plan. It looks like it's going to be at least that long for me, but more like 18 months to allow for my learning curve. I love it so far... Sandy
