I spent some time looking over this website. Lots to see. I figured this is a good resource for data and feedback from those that are way ahead of me in the process of building their own home.
So... I have my land and am nervously getting ready to clear the spot for the house. It is a wooded lot and I started putting the breaks on before the grader was given the go ahead. I love trees and plants and wasn't really sure what I had on my lot. I called a few landscape guys and paid them to really walk the land and bring me up to speed on the trees and brush. I was so glad I spent the time learning more about my land.
I feel much more certain about what I am going to clear. It really helps to know your trees. I learned about diseased trees that were either dead or dying... so if I could shift my driveway one way or the other, why not save a healthy tree and take out the one that won't make it in the long run? Big difference.
I think a grader, by nature of what they do, are kind of like a fork lift operator or mail service that tosses your valuables around like Jim Carrey in The Cable Guy -- kicking the box down the hall.
