   We are planning to retire in about two years and build a house in Mayfield, Utah.  Mayfield is a small rural town of about 500 people in central Utah.  My mother-in-law retired to Mayfield (her childhood home) about twenty years ago.  About ten years ago she acquired a parcel of land (about .7 acres) from one of her friends with the idea that we might want to retire and build there someday.

   About five years ago we had the town run the culinary water to the lot, which was not difficult since the lot faces one of the main roads in town.  Mayfield has a pressurized irrigation system and last year we put in about 200 feet of 3-inch PVC pipe to get the secondary water to our lot.

   My oldest son is a civil engineer and a couple years ago he and I did a topographic survey of the lot. (He ran the instrument, I ran the rod). In the process we found the property descriptions are not very accurate.  Apparently existing fence lines seem to take presidence over the written description.  We also realized the deed to the lot gave us more land than we had intended.  My mother-in-law gave a quit-claim deed for the extra ground back to her friend.  We were concerned that there might be some confusion in the future over the boundary between the two parcels so we built a fence where we think the boundary really is and plan to have both parties sign a boundary agreement recognizing the fence as the boundary. This was suggested by the county recorder. We hope to get this finalized in the next couple weeks.
