Headed out to look at a lot on the east side of Newton County. Close to our church, easy access to the interstate, over 16 acres.
Walked the lot, loved the trees and the contours, quickly identified several potential home sites.
Then realized the lot is 200 feet wide and 3,200 feet long. Just a long narrow piece of property. We like it, but the 200-foot thing means we could be closer to new building than we desire.
We are keeping it on the list for now, but a little disappointing.
After that, went back out to a property for a third visit. Really spent some time walking the property lines and determining how far into the property the flood plain comes. Bottom line, if we were building one home on the lot and not three, it would be great. As it is we scratched it off our list.
Three hours and two properties that don't look like they will work. C'est la vie.

Starting the process; we have looked at two lots so far. One has a lot of flood plain, the other has a nice feel and flow, but the prior owner timbered it. Aimee wants livestock options, so we are looking for A-R or Ag zoning. Going out to see another property tomorrow. Beginning the education process. Lots to learn and really hoping not to make any costly errors.
