I worked out a deal with a friend that owns a tree service company, we are bartering part of his sign - since I own a sign business, in exchange for clearing the lot. These are pic's of the lot clearing and the view from the other side of the street where our driveway will begin.

Over the last year we have been buying things for the house that have been on sale- for a fraction of what we would pay for full retail. So far we have purchased 4 decorative ceiling fans originally $200 for $100 each, 3 bronze decorative lights for the front of our garage which were $150 each for $35 each, a nice hanging bronze pendant light for under our front porch- originally $200 for $75. One of my favorite finds is a silestone vanity/sink for our spare bathroom that was custom ordered at Home Depot and the original customer didn't like it. Originally it was $700 and we got it on sale for $125. We have also purchased various ceiling mount lights for small change. We bought 2 nice stainless steel sinks for our kitchen for under $200 total for both. Today we are going to Sears outlet in Delaware to check out their scratch and dent appliances, although we don't want to have to move these twice - if the savings are big enough we will make the purchase.

Welcome to Nate and Julia's "not yet a home" in progress journal.
About 15 years ago my dad had promised/given both my brother and I 2 acres each to build our home being contigent on us subdiving them off of each side of my Dad's 8 acre property, at our own expense. My brother chose the easier lot to have the subdivision completed and I was left with more challenging lot- which now, I am thankful for.
This hasn't been an easy road. There have been many family quarrels, dissagreements and out and out fights - calling the whole thing off -during this process. But for the last year or so, things have been great and everyone is happy and positive.
It has been interesting dealing with the township. They originally wanted my lot to be a flag lot. However after speaking with the township engineer and a friend of mine on the board it was no problem to make an uneven boundry line, instead of a flag lot. So I have inherited ( after $20-30k investment for engineering/subdivision) a lot with 10 beautiful, old oak trees at the perimeter of the lot, apple trees in front of where our front porch will be and lots of mature trees in the back against the old wood fence. Not to mention a greenhouse! I am so excited.
This process will be hard for us to manage. I own a fulltime/overtime business. which takes a lot of my time. My husband normally works 10-12 hour days too. So we'll see.
Finally our lot was cleared this past Friday and equipment is coming in next week. We are still working out the best financing, however a friend of mine is assisting with the house building, so I am relieved.
